Boscolo Hotel Astoria
Step back in Florentine times with graceful elegance in two ancient buildings located centrally.
Located along the Arno River and half way between Rome and Milan, Florence is the perfect base to discover other areas of Tuscany. It's medieval history and pivotal role in European Renaissance is captured in the atmosphere of its cobbled streets, its museums, churches, the many statues and visual arts of Arnolfo to Michelangelo and Leonardo.
On the topic of all the fascinating must-dos and must-sees, do make sure your stay here is long enough to take it all in. Things like the extensive collection of Renaissance art at the Uffizi gallery, exploring the artisan work shops of Oltrarno and inevitably finding yourself in queues waiting to transfixed by Michelangelo's immortalized David could see days passing in a blur.
And when day turns to night the city is no less charming. In summer you can enjoy free jazz concerts at piazza della SS Annunziata, party it up in the piazzas and spend an evening in the lively Piazza di Santo Spirito bars and cafes. If quieter evenings just for two are more your thing, sit down for an al fresco dinner next to the Arno River, enjoy the views and soak up the romantic atmosphere.
Florence is a history, arts, architectural and cultural gem and in modern contrast to its centuries old past you can today add a tangible romance, fashion, great Italian coffee bars, pasta and pizzas. When you go to Italy, do not cheat your self out of experiencing one of the most intriguing cities in the world.
Best Areas to stay +
It will almost be foolish for us to suggest a best area to stay in. Usually this will depend on the type of surroundings you prefer and which tourist sights you would like to have nearby, but in Florence the attractions people come to see are all located in the historical centre of the city, which is small enough to be navigated on foot.
When people search for accommodation deals it is typically for the best hotels near the the Duomo Santa Croce, near the station and Santa Maria Novella, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio or places near the Arno River. The truth of the matter is that all these are all within a leisurely stroll from one another.
Usually one would advise to first choose your location and then decide on your accommodation, but in this case it is pretty much the other way around. Unless you choose to be outside the city in the country-side you cannot really go wrong with choosing a base from where to explore.
In our opinion you can choose any location within the historical city centre which include mentioned locations such as Piazza San Marco, Santa Croce, Ponte Vecchio or Piazza Santa Maria Novella and then choose a hotel that fits your style and budget. Another recommended area is Oltrarno, just south of the Arno River and still in the historical centre where you will find many artisan workshops to explore. For your convenience we list all these areas below.
